Kylian Mbappe, just 24, equaled the legendary Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani this Sunday as Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) all-time leading scorer, just one goal away from beating the South American. In a classic match against Olympique Marseille, the Frenchman was able to score 200 goals thanks to two assists from Lionel Messi in his team’s 3-0 victory.
Cavani scored two hundred goals in the 301 games he played from 2013 to 2020 when he was transferred to Manchester United. What took the Uruguayan seven years cost Mbappe only five.
In 246 games, Donatello was able to repeat this record, scoring an average of 0.81 goals per game, while the Uruguayan had 0.66. The striker came to the Paris team in 2018 from Monaco for a figure of 180 million euros.
This was not El Matador’s only record scored by the world champion with France in 2018, as he also became PSG’s top scorer in the UEFA Champions League in October 2022, surpassing the South American by 30 goals. He currently has 40 goals in 60 games in this tournament.
This season, Mbappe has scored 29 goals in Ligue 1, a competition in which he has been top scorer in the last four editions. 28 goals (21/22), 27 goals (20/21), 18 goals (19/20) and 33 goals (18/19).
