Max Verstappen makes the first Grand Prix of the 2023 Formula One season his own, proving that Red Bull it is still a machine to be beaten. The appointment in Bahrain showed the clear superiority of the RB19, which allowed Sergio Perez finish second. So it’s a total booty for Red Bull with a double that says a lot about what we can expect from the next Grands Prix.
It was the first race of a very long season, and it certainly needs to be said. However, there is a feeling that Red Bull is currently in a higher category than others. Fast, with no major reliability issues and consistent throughout the race, demonstrating that the single seater does not suffer much from tire wear.
Among Red Bull’s competitors only Fernando Alonso can smile. The Spaniard, in fact, brought the new Aston Martin to third place. It is too early to say if the team can continue to perform at the same level in the future, but in this first race the car in the hands of the Spaniard was very concrete and fast. The lag behind Verstappen, however, is one of the important ones.
Ferrari’s first race disappointed. It was clear from the outset that the performance of the new single-seater would not be enough to win. However, the minimum goal was a podium, which was never achieved. Charles Leclerc, in fact, he was trying to take third position, but a reliability problem knocked out his single car. At first they talked about the problem with the engine, but it seems that this is electronically related.

Carlos Sainz he had to settle for fourth position, about 48 seconds behind the leader. Thus, in the first race, a Ferrari appears with problems of reliability and speed, far from Red Bull. Of course, there is still a lot of work to be done. Fifth position for Mercedes Lewis Hamilton can never be truly effective. Sixth place for Aston Martin Lance Stroll still not 100% after the physical problem he had. Well done Valtteri Bottas, who brought Alfa Romeo to eighth position.
The next race is March 19 in Saudi Arabia. Let’s see if the Red Bulls remain as fast and if the Ferraris can somehow add.
