The Paris prosecutor’s office finally closed the criminal case against the Russian tennis player Yana Sizikova, who was accused of sports corruption. Her lawyer Frederic Belo told TASS about this.

“A Russian tennis player in doubles, who was detained and placed under arrest during the Roland Garros tournament in 2021, was cleared of all charges by the decision of the prosecutor,” Belo said.

He added that Yana Sizikova, who has always protested her innocence, is now free of all charges.

Belo recalled that Sizikova was wrongly accused of sports corruption for actions allegedly committed during the 2020 tournament. Then law enforcement officers noticed that in the fifth game in the second set Sizikova made two double faults at once. And before that, investigators recorded suspicious bets on the Romanian couple in bookmakers. The total amount of bets, according to Die Welt, amounted to several hundred thousand euros.

Sizikova was detained in early June 2021, after a match at the Roland Garros tournament in Paris, on suspicion of “deliberately losing” her doubles match at the 2020 French Open.
