Shevchenko and Zinchenko were surprised by the realities of Ukraine: they returned home for the first time since the beginning of the war (photo)

According to the captain of the Ukrainian national team, everything is very different compared to the images you see on your phone while you are away. Due to the busy schedule of the English Premier League and the international matches of the blue-yellows, Zinchenko could not come to Ukraine for a year.

Ukraine national football team captain and Arsenal defender/midfielder Oleksandr Zinchenko said it was difficult for him to return to Ukraine for the first time since the start of a large-scale Russian invasion. It is reported by CNN.

The 26-year-old midfielder had to watch the battle from the sidelines but was also involved in a campaign to bring attention to what was going on in Ukraine.

Due to the busy schedule of the English Premier League and the international matches of the blue-yellows, Zinchenko could not come to Ukraine last year.

“Compared to the images you see on the phone, everything is completely different,” Zinchenko said in an interview with reporters.

He took the opportunity to bring up the war in almost every interview to keep Ukraine in the world headlines.

Zinchenko, who has recently become an ambassador for the fundraising platform UNITED 24, said he is happy to be back in his hometown. On August 5, at Stamford Bridge in London, he and Andriy Shevchenko planned an exhibition match to raise money for the school’s rebuilding project.

Players, old and new, visited a school in the Chernihiv area that was destroyed by a Russian rocket. No one was injured during the attack, but the students had to look for another place to continue their studies.

“We’ve been told a lot of stories. The children who were there when the total invasion began. These are the children’s stories of how the Russian soldiers occupied the city, it’s true. The children were clearly frightened when they came in. We can rebuild everything but the most important thing is to protect the children from war,” Shevchenko said. He came to Ukraine with Zinchenko and his eldest son Jordan.

Last month, Zinchenko announced that the expected addition to the family would be the national team captain, a second-time father.

“These children don’t understand. They only see the facts,” said the President.

Zinchenko dismissed the question of how, against the background of his home war, Arsenal, of which he is one of the leaders, managed to perform at a high level in the Premier League and fight for the highest positions. He said it’s really hard for frontline soldiers, for those who risk every minute.

Recall that Jose Mourinho lost to the best team in the history of the Europa League. Sevilla won this trophy for the seventh time.

It was also reported that the UPL match on May 28 ended in a fight: Rakitsky’s face and Kornienko’s leg were broken.
