Russia’s tallest basketball player Nikolai Rogozhkin has died at the age of 29, Sport-Express reports.

According to the publication, he died on May 5, but it became known only today.

During one of the training sessions, he became ill. Then the athlete was taken to the hospital. Doctors found out that he had meningitis. But it was already too late. The basketball player was put into an artificial coma, and three days later he died.

Rogozhkin’s height was 222 centimeters. He started playing basketball at the age of 17. The guy at various times played for teams from Khimki, Yekaterinburg, Volgograd and Tambov. He began his career with the Volgograd club Aquarius.

His death came as a real shock to all of us. Now we are devastated and mourn. Kolyan was unique, he shone so brightly! A man with colossal charisma, he combined incompatible qualities – decisive, tough and unbending“, – said the head coach of the Dirty Boys team Alexei Agafonov.
