Polish border guards did not let Russian tennis player Vera Zvonareva into the country, according to the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Polish Administration. The athlete was supposed to play at the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) tournament.

Zvonareva had a visa issued to her by France, and she flew in by plane from Belgrade. However, she was not allowed into the country. The ministry said the ban was announced for reasons of national and public security.

In June, Poland refused to grant visas to Russian fencers.

In April, the Polish airline Lott Airlines removed tennis player Vitalia Dyachenko from a flight due to Russian citizenship. At the same time, the athlete had letters supporting her participation from the WTA and ITF.
