Putin congratulated Sambo Day participants on the 85th anniversary of the discipline

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory telegram to the participants and organizers of the first official Sambo Day on the 85th anniversary of the sports discipline.

The Russian leader noted that the anniversary of this sport is a good occasion to remember all the outstanding athletes, thanks to whose work it developed.

“Thanks to the wonderful traditions they established, we are implementing large-scale, popular projects aimed at promoting the values ​​of physical culture and a healthy lifestyle,” – says the text of the telegram. It was published on the Kremlin website.

The head of state noted that Sambo Day was also an initiative of athletes. The holiday should help popularize discipline and harmonious education of young people.

Let us remember that in 2022, while inspecting new martial arts centers in Luzhniki, Vladimir Putin said that sambo has become a national sport in Russia.

The president said that he began to engage in this discipline after a broken nose, which prompted him to switch to wrestling. By the beginning of his twenties, Putin had already won the Leningrad championships in judo and sambo and won the title of Master of Sports of the USSR.
