Finland will refuse the World Cup of Hockey if Russia participates

The Finnish national ice hockey team will refuse to participate in the World Cup if the Russian team is allowed to participate. The local publication Iltalehti writes about this.

“Evening journal received information from the ice hockey federation that Finland refused to play in the tournament if Russia could be included,” – the note says.

The authors of the article explained that the National Hockey League (NHL) wants to allow Russia to participate in international tournaments, but the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) is opposed. Moreover, the IIHF’s position concerns not only the World Championships, but also the Olympic Games. Finland sided with the federation on this issue.

Earlier it was reported that the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) deprived Russia of the right to host the 2023 World Championship. The decision to postpone the sporting event was made primarily for the safety and well-being of all participants in the championship, including players, officials and fans.
