Wiener: The Averins ended their careers, not wanting to perform without the Russian flag

Gymnasts Dina and Arina Averina ended their careers because they did not want to compete at the Olympic Games under a neutral flag, Irina Viner, president of the All-Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation and head coach of the Russian national team, said on Tuesday, March 5.

“This was the general decision of the coaching council and the athletes, who are accustomed to performing when the Russian national flag is raised in honor of their victories.”– quotes Wiener from the Telegram channel of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC).

Wiener added that the Averins will no longer take part in competitions, and the federation’s attention in the current conditions is focused on domestic competitions.
