Honored coach of Russia in figure skating Tatyana Tarasova spoke out against age restrictions after the victory of the 40-year-old Canadian at the World Championships.
“I am against putting age restrictions. The best people should still be winning at 40“, she said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Tarasova also cited the example of Lyudmila Belousova and Oleg Protopopov, who won when they were 40 years old.
Let us note that this year at the World Figure Skating Championships in Montreal, local athletes won the gold medal in the pairs competition: 40-year-old Deanna Stellato-Dudek and 32-year-old Maxime Deschamps.
Earlier it became known that figure skater Alexander Samarin completed his sports career at the age of 25. The skater’s last performance as a professional athlete took place as part of the Spartakiad of the Strongest in Magnitogorsk.
