LG introduced the first high-definition screen that can stretch

LG announces it has made the first user-stretchable high-definition screen. The company said the 12-inch prototype could be stretched to 14 inches without risk of damage.

Panel It has a resolution of 100 pixels per inch. and is made of a silicone alloy similar to that used in contact lenses.

Among the characteristics of this new type of screen, the fact that, since it is very thin, it can be used on surfaces, which was not possible before, stands out. Same way it is believed that they may be promising in industries such as automotive and aeronautics..

“In addition, the stretchable display uses a micro-LED light source with a pixel size of less than 40 microns, which provides a high level of durability to withstand significant external impacts, as well as a resolution that is not inferior to most existing monitors. Unlike the conventional linear wire system, the optimal structure of the flexible S-shaped spring wire system of the stretchable screen can withstand repeated changes in its shape, guaranteeing consumers its incredible durability and reliability.

The creation of this new technology was made possible thanks to a joint project of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of South Korea. and LG, which started in 2020. The purpose of this alliance was to promote the next generation of technological devices.

“This unique innovation, which can be easily attached to curved surfaces such as skin, clothing, furniture, cars and aircraftexpands the screen’s potential in a variety of industries including fashion, wearables, mobility and gaming,” they say.

This has allowed LG to work hand in hand with more than 20 industry and academic organizations in the industry to accelerate the development of next generation devices.

“We will successfully complete this project to improve the competitiveness of Korean display technologies while continuing to lead the paradigm shift in the industry,” said Soo-young Yoon, executive vice president of LG.
