The forest under the hood. They propose to create a natural reserve on Mars with its own atmosphere.

We’re not talking about making the Red Planet habitable, we just need to create little terrestrial oases.

According to UN estimates, more than 11 billion people will live on Earth in 80 years. Population growth has an even greater and often negative impact on nature. One of the ways to save Earth from a big dump would be colonization of other planets and you can start with Mars. And you can create an earthly ecosystem on this planet. For example, if you build gigantic domes with terrestrial vegetation, maybe a whole forest will be, writes Futurism.

Engineer Paul Smith of the University of Bristol, UK, proposes building a nature reserve on Mars that will serve as a psychological refuge and botanical garden for future colonists on the Red Planet. This reserve could be created under a huge dome on the Martian surface.

Some scientists believe that the theoretical reduction of the settlement of other planets and thus the negative impact on nature is the only way to save our species. Smith is of the same opinion. He believes that the uncontrolled growth of the world’s population will significantly damage the entire ecosystem of the planet. Therefore, it is necessary to create new colonies on Mars and even partially terraform the planet.

Of course, conditions on Mars are significantly different from those on Earth. It is much colder here, the planet is drier and has a completely different atmosphere. But on the other hand, according to scientists, there are huge reservoirs of water ice under the surface of the planet.

If you use these and other resources of Mars, you can build a dome on the planet with a controlled atmosphere. It’s also worth considering the fact that local rocks are rich in certain elements that can aid in the cultivation of land plants. But it is worth noting that Martian soil is devoid of a number of essential microelements, as well as soil-enriching microorganisms.

But Smith doesn’t recommend terraforming the entire Martian surface. Instead, he proposes creating areas of terrestrial forest within such domes that will effectively act as oases, offering both psychological and other benefits to Martian colonists.

“It will be a kind of natural refuge, a nature reserve if you want, that can be used to extract valuable resources,” says Smith.

So far, an unresolved problem in Smith’s project is the very high levels of solar and cosmic radiation on Mars, and the question of how the magnetic field will not affect vegetation unlike that on Earth remains unanswered.

Still, Smith believes that further research will lead to the correct resolution of these problems. In any case, Smith believes the settlement of other planets and the creation of natural earthly oases there will help save Earth from disaster.

“Humanity must survive, and of course I want Earth to survive,” Smith says. “So we have to start thinking about that now.”

As already written Focus, Mars will disappear in a few days, and this will not happen without the Moon. Most importantly, it can be seen with the naked eye.

Moreover Focus He wrote that billions of years ago a large asteroid hit Mars, causing a real planetary catastrophe.
