Aircraft modelers from Dnipro have developed a Koldun reconnaissance aircraft that has been helping the Ukrainian army on the front lines for several months. Dmitry Panchenko, President of the Federation of Aircraft Modeling Sports of the Dnipropetrovsk Region, gave more information about the drone in the broadcast of Channel 11.
Koldun is an aircraft type unmanned aerial vehicle that Ukrainian designers have developed and modified Koldun since the beginning of the war. Previously, they collected the drones one by one, now they are mass-produced.
Due to its small size, the Sorcerer drone is very difficult to spot in the sky because it looks like a small cross. It is almost impossible to hit with small arms, so the Russians have to spend on missiles – the army has recorded at least two such cases. The built-in camera shoots best from an altitude of 350-400m, where clouds do not obscure the view.
“We occupy a middle niche between short-range quadcopters and large reconnaissance aircraft flying high and far. That niche was vacant, so we’re in it. Today, with the existing team of the enterprise, we can make about 200 such aircraft per month,” said Dmitry. panchenko
According to Dmitry Panchenko, in the basic version, the drone does not transmit an image to the operator, therefore it has minimal radio emissions and is almost invisible to enemy radars. To receive intelligence, the military drone must return to the launch site. The success of the mission largely depends on the experience and skills of the team, some “Sorcerers” made hundreds of sorties.
The President of the Federation said, “Unfortunately, this is a consumable. Some planes can make 10 successful flights and some record holders can make more than a hundred successful flights. Each flight has great benefits.”
Dmitry Panchenko said that the developers did not plan to make a shocking version of the “Sorcerer”, for this it would be necessary to register the UAV as a weapon. It is now listed as a civilian drone, so after the war it can be used for peaceful purposes, for example, in agriculture.
Earlier, they wrote that the Koldun drone is protected from electronic warfare. The army controls it with a remote control and special glasses.
