We are talking about 29 providers operating in the regions of Ukraine most prone to power outages: Kharkiv, Sumy, Donetsk, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr and Kyiv.
According to the Department of Digital Development, 172 SBL batteries have been donated with the help of Canadian tech startup eQualitie, DEPS and the Rightsholders and Content Providers Association.
“The batteries will be able to protect the power supply of the provider’s grid when there is no electricity, and Ukrainians will be able to follow the latest news and stay in touch with their relatives,” the ministry said. said.
For our part, we note that such an initiative will help small providers not to lose their business. After all, due to the constant bombardment of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure by the Russian aggressor, a large number of Ukrainians switch to providers that continue to work even in conditions of power outages.
The issue here isn’t with generators or batteries (although every provider will adapt as best they can), but with the promising new PON (passive optical network) technology. To operate it, it is sufficient only to supply electricity to the provider’s site and the user’s router (for example, through a power bank), so as not to maintain power along the line as usual.
Major market players are already actively testing this technology, and a queue of customers is lining up for them. But medium and small providers who don’t have the money to upgrade the network are having a hard time. That’s why the Ministry of Digital Development’s initiative with SBL batteries will help them in difficult times.
As previously written Focus, Power cuts in Ukraine will continue until the end of the heating season.
It has also been reported that Oukitel has recently offered a portable battery that can power a variety of power tools and even electric vehicles.
