Russian soldiers noticed the threat approaching and opened fire with machine guns, but were unable to take it down before engagement.
The Ukrainian army uses American Switchblade 300 kamikaze drones to destroy the Russian infantry at the front. A video recording of the drone operation was published by the Telegram channel “Sofa Assault Brigade”.
A reconnaissance plane filmed a Russian position in the form of a fortified trench from a bird’s-eye view. It seems that the invaders noticed the aircraft approaching and even opened fire on it, but the Switchblade 300 still reached its target and exploded, destroying the RF Armed Forces manpower. It is difficult to assess the results of the attack due to the poor image quality, but at least one Russian fighter remained motionless.
The Switchblade 300 is a loitering munition developed by AeroVironment in the United States in 2011 specifically for military action in Afghanistan. The aircraft received a 50x zoom camera that allows you to track targets, aim at them and accompany them until the strike at the operator’s disposal.
The Switchblade 300 UAV can hit light military vehicles and unprotected positions such as mortar crews or machine gun points, and also effectively deal with manpower. The drone is quite compact and launches using a special tube setup that also acts as a container for shipping.
Features of the Drone Switchblade 300
- Weight: 2.5 kg
- Flight range: 10 km
- Flight speed: up to 150 km/h
- Flight time: 15 min.
The US Army began using Switchblade 300 drones in Afghanistan to destroy enemy positions beyond the reach of artillery, but the drones did not gain much popularity. The war in Ukraine forced the military to reconsider their attitude to drones, and especially to arsenals.
In April 2022, the United States sent Switchblade 300 kamikaze aircraft to Ukraine. They were included in the $800 million military aid package.
In July, they wrote about how the Ukrainian Armed Forces used Switchblade 300 drones against the Russian army. In the published video, unmanned aerial vehicles attacked the border guards of the Russian Armed Forces, the crew of the tank and the Grenadier autonomous technical observation point.
