HVOlution, new biofuel arrives at Eni’s first 50 filling stations February 20, 2023 0

Eni bet on “technological neutrality” to get to decarbonize the transport sector. Therefore, the company intends to invest in various technologies to achieve this important goal. Technologies such as i biofuel. Last November, Eni announced its work on HVO (Hydro Refined Vegetable Oil), a biofuel that it described as “made from 100% biogenic component and produced mainly from waste raw materials, residues and wastes resulting from processing of plant products or crops that do not compete with the food chain“.

So, biofuel, which, according to the company, can be used without problems in Diesel engines Euro 5 and Euro 6. Now Eni has announced that new biofuel HVOlutionEni Sustainable Mobility’s first diesel produced with 100% renewable raw materialssold first 50 stations Eni throughout Italy. However, by the end of March 2023, this fuel will be available at 150 points of sale. Eni says it can use the Eni Live app or the Enilivestation website to identify stations offering this biofuel.

About this new product, Eni says:

HVOlution can contribute to the immediate decarbonization of the transport sector, including the heavy-duty sector, in terms of exhaust emissions, as it can be used with existing infrastructure and in all approved engines with the same performance.

BIOFUEL

This new biofuel is produced by Eni in Refineries in Venice and Gela which, thanks to investments made since 2014, have been converted into biorefineries (from the end of 2022 they are, as the company says, “free of palm oil”). For the new fuel, Eni uses Patented Ecofining Technology which allows the processing of vegetable waste and non-edible oils for the production of HVO biofuels, for which Eni Sustainable Mobility is the second largest producer in Europe.

HVOlution is a biofuel made from 100% pure HVO. The company adds that prior to sales at service stations, pure HVO was used by various customers on vehicles, such as transporting passengers with reduced mobility at airports and on commercial vehicles for logistics. In addition, Eni emphasizes that in addition to diesel fuel, since 2016, HVO biofuel is present at 15% in the Eni Diesel + product, available at more than 3500 filling stations in Italy. Stefano BallistaCEO of Eni Sustainable Mobility commented:

The clean biofuel HVOlution plays a fundamental role as it can already make an important contribution to the decarbonization of mobility, including heavy-duty transport. This product enriches the offer at service stations, along with the current offer of low-carbon products such as electric recharges and services for people on the move: Eni Sustainable Mobility’s goal is to integrate industrial and commercial assets at all costs. chain, from the availability of raw materials to the sale of decarburized products to the final consumer.
