Engineers will create a “freeze-proof” drone, a cheap analogue of the famous MQ-9 Reaper

They want to allocate $107 million for the purchase of the UAV, but applicants must meet the customer’s specific requirements.

According to Defense News, the Danish Ministry of Defense has announced a tender for the purchase of a large number of small UAVs to be used for various military purposes. Candidates have until 2024 to apply and will need to meet the specific requirements of military service.

The Danish Ministry of Defense wants to buy two types of drones, one for day operations and the other for night operations. Both types should be classified as small drones, that is, they should weigh no more than 25 kg and have dimensions that allow them to be transported in a backpack or car. They must also be protected from electronic warfare (EW) and enemy cyber attacks.

One of the main requirements for UAVs is the ability to operate at low temperatures, as Denmark is a NATO member and participates in international missions in cold regions. Therefore, the Ministry of Defense will take into account the minimum temperature at which the proposed drone can operate and land, as well as its resistance to freezing and icing.

In addition, parameters such as flight range, flight time, data transfer rate and ability to integrate with other systems will be evaluated. For example, the UAV must have a power reserve of at least 8 hours and fly at a distance of at least 90 km. But the most important thing is that he should not be afraid of a temperature of -40 ° C. In addition, the drone should be able to land on ships smoothly and be equipped with two containers for transporting goods.

It is assumed that UAVs will be used both for reconnaissance missions and for setting artillery fire. To do this, they must be equipped with optical or thermal imaging cameras and laser target indicators.

The Danish Ministry of Defense was the first to use drones against ISIS military units in Iraq, but the country does not have its own systems, such as the American MQ-9 Reaper. Therefore, Denmark has announced a relevant tender, which should fill this gap by the end of 2024.
