Researchers began searching on the territory of future construction due to the proximity of the Romano-British settlement on the northern outskirts of the city. Eventually, they managed to discover an ancient Roman structure with two small rooms and one large room.
In the largest of these, archaeologists found the remains of a mosaic on the ground. It is thought to be at least 1,600 years old and may have covered the entire floor. Although several Roman artifacts have been discovered in present-day Olney, evidence suggests that the city center was not taken over by the ancient Romans until the Anglo-Saxon period or early medieval period.
