The new type of Excalibur shells received protection from the electronic warfare systems of the Russian army

According to Defense One, the American company BAE Systems has developed a new 155-mm artillery shell capable of hitting targets at a distance of more than 110 km and even destroying moving objects.

This is the longest range ever achieved by artillery used to fire a projectile of this caliber. Standard 155mm shells hit targets three times closer than the new generation of BAE Systems. The company has already signed a contract with the Pentagon for the development and production of 155 mm Excalibur shells of this class.

The most interesting thing is that it is used to counter electronic warfare in new development systems. It also uses a laser guidance system and GPS coordination (protected against electronic warfare, including Russian), which allows you to accurately hit even fast-moving targets. Unlike the old Excalibur, the new BAE Systems projectile has a choke configuration. Clog bullets have the same rear diameter as a standard bullet, but taper towards a thinner warhead to retain the explosive energy of the gunpowder charge. This bullet is easier to use and more accurate than other types.

Although BAE Systems did not give the price of the new shells, one of the publication sources said that they will cost no less than $ 85,000 each, which is not as expensive as it sounds. For example, one launch of the US Army’s 70 km Range Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System can cost $168,000 per projectile.
