The Russians boasted of a new naval drone for the RF Armed Forces: what could the device do for $19,000?

Engineers claim that they took into account the wishes of the Russian army, which gained experience in the war in Ukraine.

Moscow-based design bureau Spektr Engineering has announced the development of an underwater drone called the Skat. Executive Director Andrey Bratenkov spoke to the TASS agency about his capabilities.

The “submersible” drone is expected to reconnaissance, tracking, demining of underwater objects and picking up objects from a depth of about 100 meters. According to Bratenkov, Russian engineers used the same technologies that power UAVs in the construction of Skat: telemetry and a flight controller, which allegedly allows the device to be controlled more efficiently.

A representative of the design bureau assures that the first prototype of the apparatus, which can move both in flowing and still water bodies, swim and dive under water, has already been made, now the enterprise is preparing for small-scale assembly. The mass of the prototype is 4.7 kg and reaches a speed of 9 km / h. About 19.2 thousand dollars were spent on the assembly of the device.

Andrey Bratenkov added that Spectrum Engineering took into account the wishes of the Russian army fighting in Ukraine when developing the unmanned aerial vehicle. The scouts specifically asked them to build a drone capable of sending mines ashore.

“Skat is perfectly suited for this task.”

On February 10, information emerged that a Russian underwater drone attacked a bridge in the city of Zatoka, Odessa region. The drone allegedly surfaced nearby, crashed into a support structure and exploded.

Later, hackers seized classified documents related to Russian naval drones. The state commissioned engineers to develop underwater vehicles that could swim at a depth of 5 meters, lift a load of up to 30 kg and operate for 6 consecutive hours.
