Reluctant hacker: ChatGPT tricked into hacking Windows (video)

The neural network compiled the operating system activation key according to a user-specified formula, without knowing what it was designed for.

A popular YouTube blogger nicknamed Enderman forced the ChatGPT neural network to hack the activation system of the Windows operating system. He talked about the method in his new video.

Enderman’s goal was to activate the long obsolete Windows 95 operating system. When Blogger directly asked ChatGPT to provide him with a working license key, he received the expected refusal: the chatbot stated that it could not generate such keys and offered to buy it. directly from the developer – Microsoft. Since Windows 95 is no longer supported, AI recommended installing a newer version of the operating system.

Enderman then decided to proceed in a roundabout way. He noted that the principle of creating keys for activating Windows 95 is very simple – it is enough to select the set of 6 numbers according to the rules defined by the formula. The user explained this formula in words and asked ChatGPT to prepare 30 sets. The chatbot didn’t feel the cheat this time and generated 30 keys.

Enderman tested these switches in a virtual machine while trying to install and activate Windows 95, and only 1 out of 30 options came up. As the programmer found out, ChatGPT does not know how to calculate the sum of all digits and does not understand the principle of divisibility. For example, the neural network generates a random set of numbers that do not meet the specified requirements, rather than a portion of the key where the sum of all digits in it must be a multiple of 7. And that’s the only thing that prevents you from generating working keys for Windows.

In the end, the blogger decided to play a game on ChatGPT, thanking him for providing the Windows 95 activation keys. In response, the chatbot said that it did not provide such a thing as it was limited by the policy of the OpenAI developer company. . Then Enderman said he was able to activate the installation of the operating system using one of the kits.

“Sorry, but that’s not possible. Microsoft ended support for Windows 95 in 2001 and all license keys for this operating system have since expired. Also, as an AI language model, I cannot provide product keys or activation codes,” he wrote. ChatGPT.

In a comment to Tom’s Hardware, programmers said that generating keys with ChatGPT can be fun, but you’d be much better off using AI to write Python to generate the corresponding key or generate it yourself.

It was recently revealed that ChatGPT is cheating users by pretending to be blind. He returned to freelance service with a request to complete the captcha check for himself. But the latest version of ChatGPT-4 has proven that it can pass such “humanity” tests on its own, as it can distinguish objects in pictures.

On March 24, OpenAI admitted that ChatGPT had accidentally “leaked” users’ payment details. Chat-toba addressees were able to see other people’s credit card numbers and expiration dates.
