Representatives of the Cyber Opposition alliance hacked the email of Sergei Morgachev, the curator of the hacker group APT 18, which is accused of cybercrime worldwide. Activists also ordered “adult gifts” for her and published the data they found.
Ukrainian hackers of the “Cyber Opposition” team hacked the mailbox of Lieutenant Colonel Sergei Morgachev. He oversaw the Main Intelligence Directorate officers who were members of the well-known hacker group APT 18. This is known from the materials of the international intelligence community InformNapalm.
APT 28 is a hacker group that reports to Russian intelligence. USA, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Estonia, Czech Republic, Poland, Norway, Netherlands, Ukraine etc. responsible for cyber attacks targeting governmental and non-governmental targets in countries. Morgachev’s name emerged when the US Department of Justice was accused of hacking the Democratic Party’s servers and attempting to interfere in the election. Investigators reported that they found a letter from Apple in the officer’s mail that the US Federal Bureau of Investigation had requested data on him.
According to InformNapalm, Morgachev was born in Kiev, but studied at the Moscow FSB Academy and is a Russian citizen. In his resume, the guy states that he served in the military unit of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation for more than 10 years, where he is responsible for the selection and control of the personnel of the department, as well as the organization of work – the distribution of tasks, the creation of a plan and reports.
“So, the resume indirectly confirms that Morgachev led a group of military hackers as part of the GRU,” the investigators say.
According to information on the website of the public services of the Russian Federation, the lieutenant colonel lives in the Moscow region and owns a Toyota RAV4 car. Morgachev is married and has two young children.
The hackers gained access to the officer’s anonymous social media accounts and posted copies of his documents there. The hackers also used the money from the debit card to order Morgachev’s address for souvenirs with the FBI logo and a large batch of toys for adults. One of the last orders pushed to InformNapalm is on its way.
As a reminder, on April 3, InformNapalm reported that Russian volunteer Mikhail Luchin’s account was hacked. Thanks to hackers, the blogger “ordered” sex toys for the RF Armed Forces instead of drones. Activists also released Luchin’s number.
Later, Luchin confirmed the theft and said that he returned all the money, except for 17 thousand rubles.
