Skoda will lead to the debut new generations of Kodiaq and Superb autumn. Now the car manufacturer wanted to tell something more development these two new vehicles and, in particular, on tests were carried out in the cold beyond the Arctic Circle. The tests were carried out at temperatures down to minus 30 degrees. At the same time, he also shared some images of the cars, even if they were still covered up with film to hide the details of the new design.

For Skoda, as for all other car manufacturers, testing in extreme climatic conditions is very important. put the mechanic on the whip from new models. In this particular case, the brand says that in order to evaluate the performance of vehicles in these extremely cold climates, the effect of snow on the bodywork and the effect of snow entering the engine bay and air intakes is being studied.

All mechanical functions of the body and the electrical system must function flawlessly even at a temperature of minus 25 degrees, and the engine should start without problems at temperatures close to minus 30 degrees. All doors, hood and tailgate, as well as the fuel cap and charging port cap of PHEVs must be able to open even in these adverse conditions.

While driving they are evaluated many aspects of car behaviorsuch as the vehicle’s ability to overcome slush on the road or the behavior of the front and rear bumpers when the vehicle hits a snow barrier. Test drivers test the behavior of vehicles on icy and snowy roads and the operation of auxiliary systems.

The low temperatures also make it possible to test the operation of PHEV models’ traction batteries in these “difficult” scenarios. In addition, night lighting of the vehicle, acoustic behavior of frozen parts of the vehicle, suspension operation and all-wheel drive operation, if any, are checked. The test program also examines many interior functions, such as the operation of the heating system at extremely low outside temperatures and the level of thermal comfort in the cabin.

NEW MODELS

The new Skoda Superb will be available again both sedan and station wagon and will be produced jointly with the Volkswagen Group at the plant in Bratislava in Slovakia. This model will be built alongside the new Passat, with which it will share mechanical solutions.

Instead, the new generation of Skoda Kodiaq will continue to be offered in a 7-seat variant and will represent an evolution of the current design. It seems that the new generation of the SUV will grow a little in size to increase the space inside the cabin. To meet customer needs, Skoda has decided to also offer both models with electrified, mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines.

In addition to these models, Skoda is working on its ambitious electrification plan, which calls for the launch of 6 new electric models by 2026.
