Minister of Enterprise and Production in Italy, Adolfo Ursoback to the need increase car production in Italy restart the automotive sector and protect related industries. According to various press reports, at the end of the table with representatives of workers from the automotive, household and former industries, Ylva, the minister once again confirmed the need to increase the production of cars in our country. This is a topic that Minister Urso has raised several times in recent weeks.
Therefore, an agreement with Stellantis is necessary to restart national production. According to Urso, this deal could already come in summer, in august.
Our goal is to close a possible agreement with Stellantis before the summer break, in the first days of August, to set up any tools that may be available to find solutions in this sector.
According to the minister, there are reserves for increasing the production of cars in our country. In this regard, Urso once again recalls that today in Italy Stellantis produces 473,000 cars against 1.2 million units in France. Thus, in Italy there is room for the production of 1 million cars.
Stellantis’ management is now de facto French, with France producing 1.2 million vehicles versus Italy’s 473,000. Our goal as a government is to reverse production. We can easily reach 1 million cars produced. It is also necessary to guarantee appropriate activities.
In addition to the production agreement with Stellantis, the minister goes further and makes it clear that there will be room in Italy for more automakers. For this reason, Urso will work with the regions, using tools such as development agreements and Pnrr, to understand how to attract new investment.
It is necessary that production increase significantly immediately in order to respond to market demand, especially for products that the market is ready to absorb. We need a great plan for the automotive sector, starting with a transition agreement with Stellantis. Then the market conditions are such that there is clearly room for a second, third or fourth car manufacturer, perhaps an electric one.
In the coming days, the minister will meet with the regions and Anfia to understand what the goals should be in order to reach an agreement on the transition with the Stellantis Group.
