The network of charging stations continues to grow for electric vehicles in Italy. According to a new report Motus-EI 45,210 charging points for public use for electric vehicles. In the second quarter of 2023 alone, 4,037 new charging points were installed. Overall, 8,438 new charging points for public use were installed between January and June, compared to 4,680 in the same period in 2022 (+80%).

An increase that, according to Motus-E, should be further accelerated thanks to the infrastructure that will be built through PNRR.

CHARGING NETWORK IN ITALY

Looking at the new report in more detail, out of the current 45,210 charging points, 39,759 are AC 43kW or less, 2,233 DC 44kW to 99kW, and 3,045 over 100kW. . A total of 14,506 charging points have been installed in the last 12 months.

As for the macro-districts, the South continues to restore its positions. In fact, the South and the islands account for 23% of the total charging points in Italy, bypassing the Center (21%) and eating off another percentage point to Northern Italy (56%).

Looking at spreading infrastructure at the regional level, with Lombardy in first place (7,657 charging points), ahead of Piedmont (4,514), Veneto (4,420), Lazio (4,351) and Emilia-Romagna (3,966). However, Campania grows the most in the second quarter of 2023 (+54 compared to the first quarter of the year). They are followed by Lombardy (+15%), Liguria (+11%), Lazio (+8%) and Sicily (+7%).

According to the association, there will be an acceleration once the incentives already allocated and pending executive orders become available to charge residential use infrastructure for individuals and condominiums. Resources that the association points out will also benefit the national economy, given that more than 70% of the wall boxes sold in Italy are actually produced in the peninsula, and more than 50% of the turnkey cost is the prerogative of installation carried out by local companies and professionals .
