Stellantis takes another step in its electrification plan by opening its first Battery Technology Center which was built on the territory of the industrial complex of the city of Mirafiori, Turin. As such, the new Battery Technology Center will enhance Stellantis’ ability to design, develop and test battery packs, modules, high voltage cells and battery management software. A completely similar center will be built in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, and is intended to be part of a global battery development and manufacturing network that will be divided into six Gigafactories.
How does the new Battery Technology Center work? Stellaantis explains that the facility covers an area of 8,000 square meters and is spread over three levels. The heart of the center is 32 climatic chambers, 24 walk-through chambers for testing battery packs and 8 chambers for testing cells. Inside the 24 walk-in closets, environmental conditions can be controlled by adjusting humidity and temperature. range from -40 to 60 degrees Celsius with a maximum deflection of 20 degrees per minute.
