Bridgestone I have long set myself the goal of becoming a zero impact company by 2050. In recent days a new and important step forward has been taken in this direction. In fact, Bridgestone announced certification of the first zero-impact tire production plant (according to volumes 1 and 2). This is the Chakan plant in Pune, India, which underwent the certification process in May and June 2023 and was subsequently certified to the international PAS 2060 standard for 2022 by LRQA.
This plant produces more than 4 million tires per year. Over the years the plant reduced carbon emissions by 94%, thanks to a number of initiatives. For example, photovoltaic panels have been installed to produce energy, and a zero-emission biomass boiler plant has been created, using a fuel block made from agricultural waste.
2,974 tonnes of CO2 emissions are offset by Bridgestone India’s acquisition of Verified Carbon Standard credits from the solar photovoltaic project in Acme, India. As part of the PAS 2060 audit, the company has committed to further reducing CO2 emissions over the next three years.
The plant’s certification marks an important step forward in Bridgestone’s commitment to decarbonizing its manufacturing facilities and achieving its global goal of eliminating Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2050. Therefore, the company strives to reduce CO2 emissions at its production facilities. activities by 50% by 2030, in accordance with the 2011 standard. Stefano SanciniManaging Director, Bridgestone India, commented:
Bridgestone is committed to building a zero-emission society globally, and we are committed to achieving this goal in India as well. In fact, in production we implement various measures in this sense; In addition to the solar system and zero-emission boiler, we continue to replace diesel forklifts with electric ones and use electricity to replace LPG. Our plans for the future include further increasing the use of clean energy, reducing carbon emissions during production and monitoring Scope 3 emissions.
