Disney Plus is starting to prohibit its users from sharing their accounts

Major changes are on the horizon for Disney Plus as Starting November 1, the streaming platform will begin introducing restrictions on password sharing. In Canada. It marks a significant shift in the company’s strategy and an attempt to address a practice that has been gaining momentum in recent years.

An announcement about these restrictions was sent via email to Canadian Disney Plus subscribers.. Although Disney’s message did not include details on how the policy would be implemented, the message was clear: “You cannot share your subscription outside of your home.” The decision was seen as a bold move by the company to stop sharing passwords between users.

New terms and conditions

A new section of the Canadian subscription agreement terms states that Disney may “evaluate the use of your account.” and that failure to comply with said agreement may result in restrictions or even account cancellation. This highlights the seriousness with which Disney Plus will approach the issue of account sharing.

Disney Plus isn’t the first streaming service to address this issue. Netflix has been testing similar restrictions in several countries for more than a year and began enforcing a crackdown in the United States earlier this year.. In the case of Netflix, accounts are limited based on the user’s IP address, and subscribers have the option to add additional members to their accounts for an additional fee.

Bob Iger, Disney CEO, said the company is taking proactive steps to address the problem of password sharing. In addition to restrictions on account sharing, Disney plans to “update its subscription agreements with additional terms” later this year and “implement tactics to increase monetization” in 2024. This indicates that Disney is looking to not only stop sharing passwords for shared accounts, but also find ways to increase its revenue.
