It sank within minutes: For the first time in the world, UAV and surface drone hit the target together in Turkey (video)

8 Albatros-S surface aircraft using Bayraktar TB2 UAV sank the 69-meter target ship within minutes.

Turkey carried out a joint operation for the first time in the world between the Albatros-S surface unmanned aerial vehicle and the Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicle. This was reported by Turkish media SavunmaSanayiST.

The tests carried out off the coast of Mersin were monitored by Naval Forces Commander Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, Defense Industry Corporation President Haluk Görgün, ASELSAN General Manager Ahmet Akel and other officials at the Naval Forces Command Headquarters.

The 8-person ASELSAN Albatros-S unmanned marine vehicle attacked a ship at sea during test firings. The surface drone carrying a Roketsan warhead hit its target and exploded. As a result of successful test firings, the 69-meter target ship was sunk within a few minutes. Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicle also participated in the firing tests. He was the first to find the target, which was later used by surface drones. Thus, the test demonstrated the world’s first joint use of a surface drone and UAV.

It should be noted that during the unique test the organizers took care of the safety of the environment. The ship sunk by drones had previously been cleared of fuel and oil to prevent contamination of the water area.

Albatros-S is a highly autonomous system that can direct and carry out swarm missions independently of central control. They can perform their duties in various obstacles with capabilities such as internal communication system, control system, network architecture and global navigation satellite system (GNSS). Drones can also perform tasks in situations where there is no communication.

The Ministry of National Defense says that Albatros-S will increase the security and protection of the country’s maritime continental shelf with functions such as autonomous navigation in flocks, autonomous formation change and autonomous performance of tasks.

Let us remind you that on October 1, it was learned that the Bayraktar unmanned aerial vehicle attacked the Krasnodar region of the Russian Federation for the first time. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that Russian air defense forces allegedly managed to destroy a drone that was expected to attack targets in Sochi.

The media also wrote that in November 2022, the Turkish Red Apple unmanned aerial vehicle took to the runway for the first time. Kızılelma is a jet supersonic carrier-based unmanned aerial vehicle powered by Ukrainian or Turkish engines. It was developed as part of the MIUS program.
