However, this is not surprising, because a few years ago BMW announced that it would stop producing internal combustion engines in Munich. In fact, this plant will be very important to the German automaker’s electrification plan. Now part of the plant will be renovated go and build a new warehouse where they will produce battery models that will be created on the basis of the new New Class Platform. The investment required to adapt the plant amounts to approximately 400 million euros. The workers responsible for engine production were retrained and transferred to other production facilities.


Of course, production of modern car models such as the BMW i4 continues regularly in Munich. Strictly speaking, production of internal combustion engines has been moved and will be concentrated at the Magna Steyr plant in Austria and Hams Hall in the UK.

The Munich plant is therefore starting to prepare for the imminent arrival of the Neue Klasse platform, designed specifically for electric vehicles. We remind you that BMW intends to release 6 new cars on the Neue Klasse platform between 2025 and 2027. The first two models are a sedan and an SUV, which will be included in the market segment of the current 3 Series.
