A new step forward in the torrent bridge project. The Senate Budget Committee actually approved the government’s amendment on remodulation of necessary means to finance this project. A reconstruction that in recent days has caused a lot of controversy in the political world, given that part of the resources will come from the funds allocated for Sicily and Calabria, intended on paper for the construction of other infrastructure projects.
First of all, the total cost of the work is confirmed. Bridge over the strait it will cost 11.6 billion euros. However now, 9.3 billion will be paid by the state. The remaining amount, namely 2.3 billion euroswill be covered through fund for development and cohesion of regions. The work must be finished by 2032.
Thus, more specifically, by this date the funds provided directly by the state (9.312 million euros) will be distributed over the years as follows: 607 million euros in 2024, 885 million euros in 2025, 1.150 million euros in 2026, 440 million euros. in 2027, 1,380 million euros in 2028, 1,700 million euros in 2029, 1,430 million euros in 2030, 1,460 million euros in 2031 and 260 million euros in 2032.
Of the 2.3 billion euros that will be covered by the regions, 718 million euros will come from the reduction of the Development and Cohesion Fund of the share attributable to central administrations, and 1.6 billion euros from “reduction of the resources of the Development and Cohesion Fund, program period 2021-2027 and referred to the resources specified for the regions of Sicily and Calabria in the Sipes resolution“.
These funds will be distributed over the next few years as follows: €103 million in 2024, €100 million in 2025, €100 million in 2026, €940 million in 2027 and €357 million in 2028/2029. Construction sites are expected to open in 2024.
The text of the budget law will come to the House for debate at 17:00 on Wednesday, December 20, and the first vote will take place on Friday morning. The measure will then have to go to the House for its final green light, which is expected between Christmas and New Year.
