SBU says hackers have had access to Kyivstar since May: company responds

Kyivstar representative Irina Lelichenko emphasized that there is no fact that subscribers’ personal data was leaked.

Head of SBU Cyber ​​Security Department Ilya Vityuk said that the attackers who caused Kyivstar’s global failure have had access to its system since at least May 2023. The company’s press secretary, Irina Lelichenko, responded to this.

Kyivstar does not confirm that hackers have been accessing the company’s internal database for months. Additionally, the mobile operator does not confirm that subscribers’ personal data has been leaked.

Lelichenko noted that the official investigation into the cyber attack has not yet been completed. Law enforcement is currently evaluating “different versions” but so far none can be considered conclusive.

Already in January, an interview with the head of the SBU Cybersecurity Department, Ilya Vityuk, was published. He said hackers had been on the system since at least May 2023 and had full access since at least November. Vityuk also reported that criminals may steal subscribers’ personal information.
