The Russian Federation uses a new FPV drone relay “Ghoul”: what is its feature (photo)

The drone is used to increase the useful range of small drones. Now there are isolated cases of its use by the enemy.

The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation uses the Upyr FPV drone repeater, which repeats control signals from the pilot to the UAV and from the pilot to the UAV. This was reported on the Ukrainian military Telegram channel In Factum.

“It is used to increase the useful range of small FPV drones (Russian FPV drone relay “Upyr” – ed.). The drone repeats (retransmits) control signals from the pilot to the FPV drone for video shooting and vice versa,” the message says .

In particular, such a program requires two pilots. Factum noted that there have been isolated cases of such drone use so far. But the Russian army is learning and improving, and this cannot be ignored.

Let us recall that Defense Express analyst Sergei Zgurets said on January 9 that the Russian Federation may purchase a limited number of Shahed-238 type unmanned aerial vehicles from Iran. According to him, the first information about the jet-powered Shahed UAV appeared in November 2023. He also believes that more detailed information about this drone will emerge in a few days.

On December 18, Kirill Veres, commander of the K-2 battalion of the 54th separate mechanized brigade named after Hetman Ivan Mazepa, said that the Russian army has an advantage in FPV unmanned aerial vehicles. He noted that the enemy’s use of UAVs in war has increased, and the number of electronic warfare systems in Ukraine has increased proportionally.
