The Honor Magic6 Pro smartphone received a silicon-carbon battery: what are its advantages

The new model is also equipped with a special Power Enhanced Chip Honor E1, which regulates the current according to external conditions and load.

Chinese company Honor has equipped its new smartphone Magic6 Pro with a silicon-carbon battery with higher energy density and durability. The GSMArena website reports this.

The new Honor Magic6 Pro is equipped with a second-generation silicon-carbon battery, which provides increased power density as well as more reliable performance in a variety of conditions. The battery is equipped with a separate chip called Power Enhanced Chip Honor E1. Honor claims that the Magic6 Pro outperforms any smartphone at -20°C.

Smartphones will soon have an “ideal” lithium-free battery that can withstand 6,000 charging cycles

In the new battery technology, silicon is used instead of graphite as the negative electrode. Silicon has many important advantages over graphite; The most important of these is density. The silicon anode offers 10 times the power density of graphite. However, its volume increases by up to 300% and its lifespan is shorter. Therefore, Honor uses silicon-carbon anode to compensate for the inherent disadvantages of silicon.

The company claims that its Microtunneling Laser Guidance technology is of great value when used for silicon-based anode. This increases the contact area between the electrolyte and the anode and unlocks useful capacitance in the low voltage range.

The chip constantly adjusts the current depending on the environment and the loads involved. According to Honor, this makes the battery safer and allows it to perform better in harsh weather conditions, especially in cold weather, and also provides more accurate indicators of the percentage of battery remaining. This allowed the new Magic6 Pro to charge at 80W instead of 66W.

Honor Magic6 Pro is powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and has a 5600 mAh battery. Supports 60W wireless charging and 5W reverse charging. The smartphone is equipped with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 wireless connectivity. The 6.8-inch 1280 x 2800 OLED display has 5,000 nits maximum brightness and supports 120Hz refresh rate.

New lithium polymer battery technology may be just one step towards fundamentally new power sources for smartphones. Chinese startup Betavolt is working on a nuclear battery for portable electronics that will keep the equipment from discharging.
