Ideal proposal: How much would you need to spend on the ring to hear the cherished “yes”?

The mathematician revealed the formula for the ideal proposal so that people can ask this question and hear a positive answer on the most romantic day of the year.

Valentine’s Day is inexorably approaching, and even scientists are in the mood for romance: last year a scientist described how mathematics can help in the search for love, and this year researchers have gone even further and developed a formula for the ideal proposal. You’re bound to hear the beloved “yes,” writes the Daily Mail.

Statistics show that many people choose Valentine’s Day as the day to ask “the big question.” In most cases, people prefer to go to a restaurant, but with the rise in dinner prices, many may consider cooking a romantic dinner at home.

On the eve of Valentine’s Day, Oxford University mathematician Dr. Tom Crawford has revealed the formula for the perfect marriage proposal, which significantly increases the chances of success. According to the scientist, you will definitely have the highest chances of success if you follow his scenario.

The mathematical formula is based on Asda’s survey of 2,000 people. In the study, the scientist calculated a “recommendation score” (S) out of 100 points; where 100 is the maximum value close to “yes”. Success is based on four key factors, including:

  • M – meal time;
  • T – time of the offer;
  • P—planning volume;
  • C is the cost of the engagement ring.

There is also a fifth bonus variant: It is scored from -50 to 20 points, depending on a series of events that can occur during the most romantic dinner. After meeting with the buyers, Dr. Crawford outlined the ideal romantic dinner scenario and suggestions that will increase the chances of success:

  • the meal must start at 20:06;
  • The offering itself should be made after the main course, but not during dessert;
  • bid planning time should be approximately 68 days;
  • The cost of the wedding ring should be equal to 2.5 months’ salary.

In addition, there are several additional factors that will significantly increase the chances of success:

  • +8 points – sincere speech spoken during the proposal;
  • +7 points – romantic setting with decorative lighting and flowers;
  • +5 points – good soundtrack.

The mathematician also named several factors that can spoil the impression and reduce the chances of success:

  • -20 points – checking your phone during dinner;
  • -14 points – TV running in the background;
  • -10 points – burnt dinner;
  • -6 points – presence of children in the house.

Dr. Crawford is confident that by following these simple tips, you can plan the perfect proposal and be sure to get the answer “yes.”
