Mahindra he programmed launch of 5 new electric SUVs in India beginning from December 2024. All these models will be based on the new INGLO platform. To implement this project, the automaker entered into a partnership agreement with Volkswagen Group for delivery MEB platform components which will be used on the new platform.
Thus, the two companies continue their cooperation, which began in 2022 with the signing of a memorandum of understanding.
The signed agreement concerns the supply of certain electrical components. and merged cells which will also be used in the battery packs of the German group’s electric vehicles. The supply agreement will span several years and the total volume will be approximately 50 GWh. Both companies are also exploring opportunities for further collaboration in India in the field of e-mobility.
This is an important opportunity for Mahindra, given that the supply agreement allows it to accelerate the development of its electric models. Volkswagen, on the other hand, continues to monetize its MEB platform. As we know, this is not actually the first time that a German company has licensed technical solutions developed for its electric vehicles. In fact, Volkswagen has already licensed its MEB platform. to Ford. Thanks to this agreement, the new Ford Explorer electric SUV was developed.
It remains to be seen which models Mahindra will launch in the Indian market equipped with MEB platform components.
The partnership with Mahindra is coordinated by Volkswagen Group Technology and its operating unit ‘Platform Business’ in collaboration with Skoda Auto Volkswagen India.
