Mate Rimac: Acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in one second is “possible.” But… March 01, 2024 0

The new Tesla Roadster will be able to accelerate 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in less than a second. This is what Elon Musk said. The performance that would be possible because the car has SpaceX also collaborated. This is likely a reference to a package Musk announced a few years ago that involves installing a series of mini-rocket boosters around the car to make it even faster.

Elon Musk’s claims about the characteristics of the new Roadster have caused much debate and, according to some, are impossible. He also spoke on this topic Mate Rimac who probably knows about electric supercars, via his Facebook page by replying to a user’s comment.

MANY PROBLEMS

According to Rimac, a similar result is possible, but not with traditional solutions. Use of rocket boosters instead it would be possible, so much so that it seems like your company ran a simulation to test it. However, Then there are a few problems regarded as extra weight what the car must carry after the extra traction is used up. We are talking about components such as tanks, valves and much more.

To sum it up, a system like this could work, but once its usefulness is exhausted in a matter of seconds, it will only become a burden and an additional burden.

This is possible using rocket engines. We ran a simulation. The problem is that you release the boost in 2-3 seconds, and then carry a lot of your own cargo with you (tanks, compressor, valves, injectors, etc.).

According to Rimac, such acceleration would not be possible with electric motors alone, even without using a fan system to create aerodynamic load and increase traction, a bit like McMurtry Speirling. This solution, in fact, only increases traction, but to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 1 second you will need something around 30,000 Nm at the wheels, which means that the car will need to be equipped with huge motors – inverters. and transmission shafts….The problem is that this negatively affects the weight by “overloading” the tires.

In short, for Rimac the only viable alternative is rockets, which however comes with several negative aspects. Will the new Tesla Roadster really have this special SpaceX package? It might not take long considering the car is due to be unveiled at the end of the year. So maybe more details will come out first.
