Unusual research. Astronomers discover whether aliens can detect life on Earth

Scientists believe that potential aliens with technologies similar to those on Earth could make a very important discovery.

Although it may seem strange, scientists have confirmed the fact that our planet is a habitable world. The authors of a new study published in The Astrophysical Journal using observations from space have confirmed that life may exist on Earth. Although it is clear that it exists here, precisely in this formulation. In fact, the scientists’ goal was not to confirm this fact, but they wanted to find out whether potential aliens could learn that life exists on Earth, Space writes.

Scientists are trying to discover extraterrestrial life on planets outside the solar system. It can be assumed that potential aliens do the same. The authors of the study asked the following question: What could signal to an extraterrestrial civilization the existence of life on Earth, and would they be able to detect it from long distance?

Important

The solar system is full of interstellar objects: maybe these are alien crafts

This research is important to validate the technology of the upcoming Large Interferometer for Exoplanets (LIFE) space telescope, which will search for extraterrestrial life on outer planets. This telescope will consist of five separate spacecraft that form a single mid-infrared interferometer. This telescope, planned to be sent into space in 2026 or 2027, will be located at the L2 Lagrange point, 1.5 million km away from the Earth. So it will orbit the Sun alongside the Webb Space Telescope.

Scientists decided to test whether LIFE instruments could detect extraterrestrial life on exoplanets, but to do so they used similar technologies to detect life on Earth. The fact is that if such technologies do not allow us to detect life on our planet, then of course they will not find it on other worlds either. We are specifically talking about rocky planets that are similar to Earth in size and temperature.

The LIFE telescope will capture the thermal emissions of these worlds and use the spectrum of their light to determine what elements and chemicals are present in their atmospheres. The telescope will also be able to detect molecules such as methane, which are frequently produced by the biological processes of living things.

Scientists used NASA’s Aqua Earth satellite to get an idea of the mid-infrared radiation spectrum that could be expected from Earth if aliens were looking at it from deep space.

Scientists concluded that if a similar LIFE space telescope observed Earth from 30 light-years away, it would successfully determine that our planet is a warm and habitable world. The study also showed that carbon dioxide, methane and water are visible in Earth’s light spectrum, indicating the presence of life on the planet.

As I already wrote Focus, China plans to transfer the technology of Skynet, the largest human surveillance system in the world, to the moon. China plans to protect its future base from “suspicious targets” with the help of the lunar version of this system.

Moreover Focus wrote that physicists have discovered the strongest magnetic field in the Universe on our planet. Thought to have the strongest magnetic field, it turned out to be several thousand times stronger than the most magnetized neutron stars.
