More difficult to intercept: Russia protected Iskander missiles from electronic warfare with a new system (photo)

The Russians previously equipped attack aircraft and guided bomb kits with Comet weapons, but now they also arm ballistic missiles.

The Russians installed the Kometa-P8 satellite navigation system on Iskander missiles, which protects them from electronic warfare. This was reported by Ukrainian military officer and radio communications specialist Sergei Beskrestnov on his Telegram channel with the call sign “Flash”.

The expert showed a photo of a communication module belonging to the Iskander missile, which was probably found. In his message, he noted that this was the Russian response to the development of Ukrainian electronic warfare systems.

“Meet Iskander’s new protected satellite navigation system, Kometa-P8. The enemy sees that we are effectively using electronic warfare and taking countermeasures,” says Sergei Beskrestnov.

It was previously reported that an anti-interference device, whose structure was similar to Comet’s digital modules, was found in the remains of the Iskander missile found. To protect against electronic warfare, engineers improved the 9M723 missiles with small-sized adaptive antenna arrays (MAAR) of the Comet series. Instead of a container with decoys in the tail of the rocket, Russian gunsmiths installed additional satellite navigation system modules that resemble Comet’s digital modules.

The Russians also began installing a new type of Comet antenna on the Unified Planning and Correction Modules (UMPC), making the bombs controllable. A new eight-beam antenna system was found for the first time in the wreckage of the UMPC. Such an antenna provides fairly effective suppression of electronic warfare and can simultaneously neutralize seven sources of interference. This is how Russia reacted to the strengthening of Ukrainian electronic warfare.

Today it is reported that the Russians probably used the Iskander-M missile to hit Nikolaev. After the attack, a fire broke out on the territory of an industrial infrastructure facility. Head of the Nikolaev Regional State Administration, Vitaly Kim, noted that 12 people were injured as a result of the attack, and four of them received outpatient treatment. There was also minor damage to six apartment buildings.
