Products recommended for weight loss can often have the opposite effect on the body.

Losing weight is the desire of most people who have gained excess weight for one reason or another. With all the abundance of diets, some foods that are included in the composition, helping to lose weight, can cause a backlash in the body. Three nutritionists told the Daily Mail that while some foods may seem like a great choice for weight loss—organic and plant-based options, for example—it can cause a person to regain weight if they eat too much.

sports drinks

Professional athletes tend to encourage the use of specialty drinks after a tough workout. However, what is good for professionals does not guarantee the same effect for amateurs who exercise much less.

Sports drinks help replenish electrolytes lost through sweat. Sodium and potassium are essential electrolytes they can replenish.

A “serving size” can be as low as 50 calories, but eating a whole bottle is 150-200 calories. If a person only burns 100-200 calories per workout, a sports drink will eliminate those calories entirely.

Excessive consumption of sports drinks by non-athletes can increase the risk of obesity and cardiovascular disease.

“Smoothies are one of those foods that people think is healthy without knowing what’s in them,” says nutritionist Michelle Townsend of the University of Missouri Health.

The contents of the smoothie can affect its nutritional value. For example, if you put a banana and a few tablespoons of peanut butter in it, the less nutritious ingredients will outweigh the good ones.

Ordering them at a restaurant can lead to even more uncertainty.

Healthy smoothies are best made with ingredients like unsweetened Greek yogurt, almond butter, strawberries, spinach, and flaxseed.

Salads in restaurants and salad bars pose the greatest risk of hindering weight loss goals.

“Making salad at the restaurant is a very different matter from the salad most people make at home. Popular breakfast foods are severely lacking in vital nutrients like protein and fiber.

“Actually, they’re just carbs with added sugar. With a lack of protein and healthy fat, it won’t make you feel full,” Williams assured.

High-fiber options are less likely to contain added sugar and are less processed than their less healthy counterparts. Williams suggests choosing grains that are high in fiber and protein, and pairing the grain with healthy protein like a handful of nuts can keep it fuller.

Dried fruits in ready-made mixes are an easy snack on the go, but whole fruits are best for weight loss. For example, a cup of dried apricots has more than 300 calories, while a cup of chopped apricots has only 79 calories.

“When you eat fruit, you eat a fruit. But when you eat dried fruit, you eat a few pieces of fruit because you’ve dried and compressed them. You just get a higher sugar load,” Surampudi said.

Cheese

Cheese is an excellent source of calcium and protein, as well as vitamins A and B12. A study published in the British Journal of Nutrition found that fermented dairy products such as yogurt and cheese have a positive effect on cardiovascular health. They have also been found to have anti-inflammatory properties.

However, frequent consumption of cheese causes weight gain. It has three times more calories than boiled chicken.
