The performances of the Ukrainian singers of “Eurovision” – Alyosha, Yulia Sanina and Maria Yaremchuk – in the first semi-final brought a victory.
Three of our singers performed triumphantly at the Eurovision opening in Liverpool.
First of all, it concerns singer Alyosha, who sang a duet with British singer Rebecca Ferguson on British band Duran Duran’s hit Ordinary World. More precisely, this is a new version – Welcome To Our Home / Ordinary World. Alyosha admitted in social networks that the topic is dedicated to Ukrainian mothers who after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia were forced to emigrate and take their children abroad.
“Dark colors have dominated the palette of our lives since February 24, 2022. But thanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, bright colors appear in this palette. And soon they will shine all over Ukraine,” wrote Alyosha.
Ukraine at Eurovision 2023. incendiary numbers
The number is incredible. First we see a huge clock with rotating hands. The white moon hangs over the peacefully sleeping city. An apartment appears in space, where a young couple in love is dancing. The yellow-blue tones of a panel circle suddenly turn red. The moon blinks crimson and the heartbreaking cry of an airstrike can be heard. In the next moment, the girl accompanies the warrior through the door that opens in the dark – this is Alyosha, singing in Ukrainian.
Dozens of laser red birds soared into the sky, circled and flew to the West – they personified our women and children, who were forced to migrate after the Russian invasion.
“How are you, my love? I’m near Poland” – yellow and blue text messages flashed behind the stage, and a highway “lined up” in front of the singer.
On stage we see the “door” of a mobile phone. The singer passes through it and falls into the arms of her lover – a warrior. Then, under each of them are many dials symbolizing different time zones in Europe – a yellow-blue Ukrainian woman. Then this clock turns into a beating yellow-blue heart with wings in the middle of which Alyosha sings a duet with Ferguson.
The spotlight focuses on Alyosha’s heart, the outline of a yellow-blue bird – and everything on stage is painted in the colors of our flag. In the final – a shower of applause.

Yulia Sanina and The Hardkiss performed the song “Mayak”.
On the stage there is a yellow-blue frame in which a boy and a girl communicate. Finally, they meet with their palms and descend into the depths of the stage to the applause of the hall. Sanina in a dark dress with fire depicted on her skirt. Then the group performs the composition in the style of pop-hard with a text about the support of Ukraine: “In the wild storm – we are not alone.” At the end of the song – a powerful fire show.
Eurovision 2023 and Ukrainian classics
Maria Yaremchuk took the stage with OTOY and Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 participant Zlata Dzunka.
Maria was wearing a white cloak with a print of a young Taras Shevchenko. During the performance, portraits of prominent Ukrainians, from Lesya Ukrainka to Valeriy Ivasyuk, were broadcast on the stage. The singer powerfully sang the compositions “Motherland”, “Kolo Hati’s Cherry Orchard” and “Shchedryk”.
Yaremchuk threw off his cloak and remained in a white robe with gold embroidery. Golden ear models “grown” on the stage. At the end of the number, with the help of a laser, a golden treble clef and the Hagia Sophia Cathedral “float” onto the stage.
Zlata Dzyunka performing “Shchedryk” descended on the stage to Maria on a huge gold star.
The last lines “Shchedryk, Shchedryk, Shchedryvochka, the swallow came in” sounded like the golden swallow melting on the screen. At the last note, the audience began to applaud.
