Berry season 2023: How many berries can you eat without harm to health?

Strawberries, one of the first fruits of the season, have already filled the shelves and are demanding immediate purchase. How is it useful and what daily serving of strawberries will not harm your health?

Strawberries are sweet, juicy fruits with excellent vitamin content. It contains vitamins of groups B, E, A, as well as iron, folic and ascorbic acids. Strawberries contain even more vitamin C than citrus fruits, so eating only 100 g of strawberries will meet the daily requirement of this valuable vitamin. Scientists believe that strawberry improves memory and supports brain cells, prevents aging.

But this does not mean that it can be eaten without a sense of proportion, because strawberries contain fructose, with excessive consumption of which the level of insulin rises. How many strawberries can you eat in a day? We asked this to nutritionist and healthy eating instructor Natalia Kozak.

“The fruit season is very short, so I don’t pay much attention to the norms during this period. Frankly, I am increasing the strawberry norm this season. But you still need to focus on the maximum allowable doses.

Strawberry is a very filling fruit, rich in vitamin C, water and dietary fiber. It also contains magnesium, amino acids. The fructose in the composition is 2.44 g per 100 g, if in everything else I only see benefit, then it is desirable to control the amount of fructose. The daily dose of fructose is 40g, so considering the fructose content in some vegetables as well, add 300-400g of strawberries to every meal and you’ll be happy. But if the diet includes fruits, remember that they contain much more fructose. Accordingly, it is necessary to proportionally reduce the portion of fruits.

Most of the nutrients are found in freshly picked and unprocessed strawberries. It is also an ideal product for those who fit in shape, because 100 grams of this fruit contains only 38 kcal. But you should not use it on fasting days.

If you are healthy and do not suffer from chronic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, you can safely eat a fairly large number of fruits per day. However, if you have ulcers, gastritis, gastric colic or increased secretion of gastric juice, then strawberries in your diet should be sharply limited – a maximum of 200 g per day.

It should also be remembered that strawberry is one of the strongest allergens, so it should be used with extreme caution for allergy sufferers, young children and expectant mothers.
