The musician’s causes of death have not yet been disclosed, but it is known that he has been struggling with oncology for years. Cutugno passed away on August 22, 2023, at Milan’s San Raffaele Hospital.
“After a long illness, the singer has gotten worse in recent months,” said Daniel Mancuso, the musician’s manager.
The Italian singer started his musical career as a composer. Three of the musician’s songs topped the French charts for a long time: “Lete indien” performed by Joe Dassin, “Ciao, bambino, Sorry” performed by Mireille Mathieu, and “En chantant” performed by Michel Sardou.
And the song “Soli”, performed by Adriano Celentano, became very popular in Europe in general. The 16 songs that Toto Cutugno wrote especially for Joe Dassin became the best of the French chansonnier repertoire.
Cutugno recorded 18 albums and his songs became immortal.
The singer won the 1990 Eurovision Song Contest held in Zagreb with her own song. “Insieme: 1990” (“Together: 1990”)is a ballad dedicated to European political integration. With Gigliola Cinquenti, Toto is the only two Eurovision winners from Italy.
