September 7, 2023: Father Luke – what should not be done today?

What happened today?

Today the Orthodox Church honors memory Father Luke. He lived in the tenth century and was the third holy abbot of the monastery of the Savior, called the “Deep Rivers” (near Constantinople). The first holy hegumen was the Monk Basil, the second the Friar Ignatius. The monastery was famous for the particularly strict ascetic life of its inhabitants.

Things not to do on September 7:

  • loan;
  • give dolls to girls;
  • court.

Folk signs and beliefs:

  • white clouds – the weather will soon deteriorate;
  • cranes fly high – autumn will be rainy and cold;
  • cones grow low – frosts come early, and if high, winter will come late.
