Nina Matvienko passed away on October 8, 2023, two days shy of her 76th birthday.
42-year-old Ukrainian singer Antonina Matvienko dedicated the song “Sik of the Earth” to her late mother. Nina Matvienko’s daughter posted the video on her Instagram account.
“I dedicate it to my mother,” wrote the wife of singer Arsen Mirzoyan.

The artist wanted to give this composition to her mother for Nina Matvienko’s 76th birthday, which she will celebrate on October 10, 2023. However, two days ago, the People’s Artist of Ukraine passed away.
“I put a lot of soul, warmth and love into this song. It was supposed to be a beautiful surprise for my mother’s birthday. Unfortunately, circumstances are stronger than our plans,” said Tonya Matvienko, prompting us to call our parents and thank them for everything they have given us.
“I will definitely continue my mother’s tradition of popularizing Ukrainian songs in the world. Do good! Respect each other and your roots. Thank you, mother!” – pointed out the daughter of Nina Matvienko.
Allegedly, Matvienko’s idea to create the composition arose while he was living in England because of the great war in Ukraine and missed his mother. Meanwhile, she remembered the song “Sik of the Earth” that she had listened to in her childhood. That’s why I decided to sing the song again and make a gift to my mother in this way.
In the video, the artist used materials from a family photo album and archival photographs of Ukrainians from the Ivan Gonchar Museum, run by the capital’s father, Pyotr Gonchar. He and Nina Mitrofanovna were married from 1971 until his death. The couple raised three children: Antonina, Ivan and Andrey.
Let us remind you that Natalya Mogilevskaya talked about her last meeting with Nina Matvienko in May 2023.
