Barbie director Greta Gerwig started working on a new project

Producer Josie McNamara said, “They are great together. It would be great if we could do more projects beyond this.”

McNamara is the co-founder of LuckyChap Entertainment, which produced Barbie alongside Robbie, her husband Tom Ackerley and Sophia Kerr, and will do the same for the upcoming Ocean’s Eleven.

But don’t expect any plot details to be revealed anytime soon. As McNamara said in an interview, “I can’t say too much, but I think we’re trying to do the right thing within the franchise. I’m really excited for people to feel the joy when the movie ends.”

The details of the scenario are unknown, but it is clear that the film will create a sensation.

In May, Margot Robbie’s publicist revealed that the project was a prequel to the story of the original film, set in the ’60s.

The first movie starring Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. was shot in 1960. And it was successfully rebooted in 2001 by director Steven Soderbergh.

Sodebergh’s Las Vegas heist movie stars George Clooney as Danny Ocean.

There were two sequels: Ocean’s Twelve in 2004 and Ocean’s Thirteen three years later. An all-female spin-off, Ocean’s 8, followed in 2018; starring Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway.

Meanwhile, Barbie is still riding a wave of success after its premiere this summer. The film grossed more than $1.437 million in worldwide ticket sales, surpassing Super Mario Bros. as the highest-grossing film of 2023.

Other financial milestones for Barbie include Greta Gerwig becoming the highest-grossing female live-action director in global box office history.

By mid-August, Margot Robbie, who predicted “Barbie” would “make a billion dollars” in its initial pitch, was already set to make $50 million in a deal combining fee and box office bonuses, according to Variety.
