Princess Diana’s blouse from her engagement portrait sold at auction for $100,000

Diana wore a soft pink crepe-collared blouse as she was photographed for Vogue by royal photographer Lord Snowdon.

The headliner of next December’s auction season will be an outfit from Princess Diana’s wardrobe. Namely, the iconic pink Emanuels chiffon blouse featured in the famous 1981 engagement portrait of Princess Margaret’s husband, Lord Snowdon. Hello Magazine writes about this.

The blouse was designed by famous designer duo David and Elizabeth Emanuel. According to fashion experts, it’s not just a beautiful outfit; This is symbolic of Diana’s journey into the world of fashion, which ultimately led to the creation of her unforgettable wedding dress.

The soft pink crepe blouse has a ruffled neckline, puffy sleeves with ruffled cuffs, and a satin ribbon tied in a bow under the collar.

The starting price for a blouse is between $80,000 and $100,000.

Titled “Glamour, Grace and Grandeur: A Classic Hollywood Auction,” the auction features many iconic pieces from the greatest style icons of all time. The event promises to be amazing. The creations of the most famous designers of both the fashion world and Hollywood history will be featured.

What adds interest to the blouse is its back story. After her engagement to Prince Charles, Princess Diana sought fashion advice from British Vogue fashion editor Anna Harvey. Harvey played a key role in shaping Diana’s early style, introducing her to designers and guiding her through the world of fashion. The pink chiffon blouse was one of the options available to Diana during this formative period, and it became a key element in creating the princess’ romantic fairytale look that defined Diana’s style in the early 1980s.

“I don’t think she had any idea how many beautiful things there were. Her enthusiasm was infectious,” Anne recalls in Georgina Howell’s book Diana: Her Life in Fashion.

The blouse, which was previously displayed at London’s Kensington Palace as part of the 2019 Diana: Fashion Story exhibition, has a rich history that goes beyond its association with the royal engagement portrait. The portrait, published in Vogue magazine, coincided with the official announcement of Charles and Diana’s engagement in February 1981.

In addition to the Emanuels blouse, the auction will also feature another magnificent item from Diana’s wardrobe: an evening dress by Jacques Azagury that Diana wore in Florence in April 1985.

The dress features soft shoulder pads, a black velvet bodice with star embroidery, and a two-layer dark blue organza skirt. The outfit is completed with a belt and bow.

The full skirt, in particular, pays homage to Princess Diana’s passion for ballet and her role as patron of the English National Ballet. Its price is expected to be between £79,360 and £158,720.

The Legends of Hollywood auction presented by Julien’s and Turner Classic Movies (TCM) doesn’t just include Princess Diana; It features many iconic artworks from various stars. From Audrey Hepburn’s dress in the 1963 comedy Charade to Barbra Streisand’s sailor dress in the 1960s special My Name Is Barbra, the event promises to be a treasure trove for fashionistas and collectors alike.

Let us remind you that she previously told how the costume designer of the TV series “The Crown” recreated Diana’s outfits. Elizabeth Debicki plays the princess in the series.
