The United States of America has prepared an additional package of military assistance to Ukraine, this time in the amount of $3 billion. This will be officially announced on August 24, when the special operation reaches the six-month mark, and the country celebrates its Independence Day.
According to Associated Press, the money is intended for training soldiers and equipping the Kyiv army. In particular, Kyiv will be able to pay for contracts for UAVs and other equipment. At the same time, the total amount of assistance can be adjusted, but hardly significantly.
“Unlike most previous packages, the new funding aims to help Ukraine secure its medium- and long-term defense posture. Previous deliveries have focused on Ukraine’s more pressing arms and ammunition needs,” – writes the publication.
The additional purpose of this package is to reassure Ukrainian officials that the United States intends to continue to support Kyiv no matter how events unfold.
Recall that NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg spoke at the Crimean Platform summit about the “importance of long-term support” for Ukraine, which “waits for a hard winter.” German Chancellor Scholz, in turn, spoke about the coordination between Germany and Canada of the next package of assistance to Kyiv.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that any supply of weapons from the West to Ukraine would become legitimate targets for the Russian Aerospace Forces. The head of the ministry, Sergei Lavrov, noted that pumping Kyiv with ammunition and equipment would only prolong the conflict. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov also spoke about the negative effect of the uncontrolled flow of weapons to Ukraine.
