Local broadcaster La Vanguardia reported that the explosion occurred in the embassy building.
The reaction of the Ukrainian authorities
The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Oleg Nikolenko, said on his Facebook page that the envelope exploded in the hand of the embassy commander, who was slightly injured.
The diplomat said in a statement, “The commander was slightly injured, he is currently hospitalized, he is receiving the necessary medical care. It is not life-threatening.”
Except for this employee, no one was harmed.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmitry Kuleba, ordered that the security of the foreign embassies of Ukraine be increased urgently and asked the Spanish authorities to investigate the incident.
According to Kuleba, no matter who is behind the organization of this explosion, it will not be possible to intimidate Ukrainian diplomats or stop their daily work to strengthen Ukraine and counter Russian aggression.
