Putin destroys the people: the US Senate considers the actions of the Russian army a genocide of the Ukrainians

Members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee called the court, noting the persecution of the invaders in the Kyiv region. Moscow sees attempts to prosecute Russian officials as a threat to humanity.

The US Senate Foreign Relations Committee recognized the actions of Russia and its military in Ukraine as genocide against the Ukrainian people. The press service of the committee said that now members of the Senate will vote on the resolution.

Republican Senator Jim Rish said that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions and words made clear his military goals – the destruction of the Ukrainian people.

“I saw with my own eyes his atrocities in Irpin and the Kyiv region. We must do everything we can to support the Ukrainian people in their struggle for survival,” he said.

Democrat Senator Ben Cardin agreed with him. According to him, the crimes committed by the Russian army against the Ukrainians are against international conventions and are defined only by the concept of genocide.

“The people of Ukraine showed determination to repel the attack. Innocents will continue to die until Russia understands the consequences of its despicable actions,” Cardin said.

Genocide of the Russian Federation in Ukraine: what is in the text of the resolution?

The approved document condemns Russia for its genocidal acts against the Ukrainian people and calls on the United States and its NATO allies to support Kiev to prevent the killing of Ukrainians.

The decision calls for a court and an international investigation into the actions of Russian leaders and the military. US President Joe Biden is asked to apply the Magnitsky “Global Magnistky” law against those involved in the genocide in Ukraine.

The document was supported by 14 other Democrat and Republican senators. Especially Democrat Richard Blumenthal, Republican Rob Portman, Democrat Gene Shaheen, Republican Lindsey Graham and others.

Andriy Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, commented on the decision of the Foreign Relations Committee of the US Senate.

“The resolution condemns active genocide against the Ukrainian people and calls on the US government to work with allies to prevent future acts of genocide. The document is now put to universal vote in the Senate,” wrote the Telegram.

Russian Genocide in Ukraine: location of Moscow

In Russia, statements by Western leaders about the genocide in Ukraine are seen as “a senseless distortion of facts”.

“To justify anti-Russian hostility, legislators falsify the wording in UN documents… American parliamentarians have ignored the suffering of Donbass residents for eight years. Capitol Hill has long turned into a conveyor belt for repeating anti-Russian initiatives.” The United States Embassy said.

Dmitry Medvedev, chairman of the council of the pro-government United Russia party, said such statements were “legally invalid and fundamentally wrong”.

Chief Advisor to the President, Mikhail Podolyak, said earlier that Russia is trying to destroy Ukraine as a state and kill Ukrainians.

Recall that the Federal Assembly at the end of November recognized the Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people. Germany said responsibility for the Holodomor rested with Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin.

In July, the European Union and 43 other countries announced that the Russian Federation should be punished for the genocide in Ukraine. Moscow considers attempts to establish a court over Russia as a threat to humanity, the offensive threatens the largest nuclear potential in the world.
